Carlyle has deep respect for the people he encounters and appreciation for the many ways people get along in this world. He has a master's in Counseling (2005), a license in clinical mental health counseling (LCMHC), and a license in helping with addictions recovery (LCAS). But he doesn't let those get in the way! He knows what it is like to struggle, and he prioritizes listening to people's hearts over anything taught in schools. In Carlyle's counseling practice he helps people find more empowerment and inner peace.
With more than 20 years experience in the roles of teacher, youth care worker, and counselor, Carlyle has worked to end family violence, helping people of different ages and genders learn better ways to meet their needs. He leads groups helping people change their relationships with alcohol and other drugs. He enjoys working with people in both Spanish and English. In addition to training in NVC, he has trained in Gestalt and in "The Work" of Byron Katie.
Empathy, "power-with" values, and questioning oppressive authority have fascinated him since 1992. Since 2018 Carlyle has immersed himself in NVC. Helping people improve relationships has been a longtime passion. He is devoted to finding creative, win-win solutions for the challenges we face -- solutions which honor the needs of all. Carlyle revels in what he sees as the unity of self-interest and benevolence. As Marshall Rosenberg put it, "Meeting needs is the most fun game in town!"

He also encourages people to be curious about what goes on “behind the scenes” for the people we want to have a conversation with.
